Despite certain marketing claims about antiseptic mouthwash, dental floss remains the most effective tool for removing food particles from between the teeth and along the gum line.

There are a couple of different materials that floss can be made from. It can either be made of small nylon strands or an extruded plastic monofilament. Nylon floss is available in different thicknesses and generally costs less than monofilament.

Both varieties are durable and have manufacturers that have earned the American Dental Association’s Seal of Acceptance.

On a clinical level difference between waxed and unwaxed floss. While it is a matter of personal preference, people with tight spaces between their teeth often choose waxed dental floss because the waxy coating helps slide the floss between the teeth smoothly and safely.

The thickness of the floss can also be a factor in how easily it can be worked between your teeth. You should try using a different thickness of floss if you find that your current brand is too tight.

Some brands of dental floss are flavored. These flavors have no bearing on the effectiveness of the floss they are simply a matter of personal preference.
