Dental sealants are strong, successful dental products that cover your teeth and protect them from tooth decay as well as harmful food particles and bacteria. If you are one who is interested in protecting your smile, we encourage you to consider dental sealants.

These thin, plastic coatings are easily placed on your teeth and they successfully provide protection for many years. They are generally best for children and teenagers who are prone to tooth decay and additional dental issues. However, adults are also able to protect their teeth with dental sealants if they do not suffer from tooth decay or have fillings in their molars.

The process involved in placing the sealant is easy and painless. It first begins with your dentist thoroughly cleaning the tooth that is receiving the sealant. The tooth is then dried. Then, your dentist will place an acid solution on the tooth, roughening up the surface. This helps the sealant bond to the tooth. Next, Dr. Shelly Ereth Barone will rinse and dry the tooth. When the tooth is completely dry, the dentist will paint the sealant onto the tooth enamel. It will bond directly to the tooth and will harden. If necessary, your dentist will use a special light to harden the material.
